Mission

Culture Days is a collaborative pan-Canadian volunteer movement to raise the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement by all Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities.

Culture Days embraces a core vision that every individual, regardless of age, background or experience, has the right to access and participate actively in the arts and cultural life of their community.

Culture Days believes that the arts and cultural sector makes a vital contribution to the economic and social development of every community in Canada and contributes to the overall health of the country.

As such, Culture Days aims to:

  • Foster appreciation and support of the artistic and cultural life that is lived, created and expressed across the country in urban centers and rural communities alike.
  • Stimulate and strengthen a sense of ownership of arts and culture by citizens in their local communities.
  • Promote direct interaction between creators and citizens, as a key to increasing understanding and appreciation for art and culture.
  • Affirm that every citizen is the guardian of the cultural life of his or her community.

Culture Days began in 2010 and takes place again this year during the weekend of September 28, 29 & 30, 2012 – this celebration of art and culture will live on in years to come as an annual coast to coast to coast Canadian event. Culture Days features thousands of free, hands-on, interactive activities that invite the Canadians public to participate "behind the scenes" and discover the cultural life of their local community.
